A bill sponsored by Sen. Kevin Daley (R-Arcadia Township) that will provide family members of U.S. military members with a specialty license plate for their cars recently passed through the Senate.
SB118 will go to the House of Representatives for further consideration, according to Daley's website.
“Senate Bill 118, would require the secretary of state to develop and issue a special recognition license plate recognizing Blue Star Families," Daley said. "Under the bill, residents who are currently serving in the U.S. armed forces — or members of their immediate family — would be able to apply for the special recognition plate."
The insignia of the Blue Stars Families and the words "Blue Stars Family" would be featured on the license plate. The Blue Stars is a nonprofit organization that provides military families with programs that can get them involved in the community around them and strengthen their connections, provide volunteer opportunities and career training.
"The plate would include the Blue Star Families insignia and the words “Blue Star Family” under the registration numbers," Daley said. "I know it is quite minimal when compared to the sacrifices their families have made, but I hope this will serve as a small token of our gratitude and a way for us to recognize those who fought for our freedom. The men and women of our military and their families have made sacrifices that most of us cannot even imagine. Blue Star Families is a terrific organization that provides support and resources to help those who are giving their all for this country.”
