Michigan officials say that the state received a large number of COVID-19 vaccines, but they were expecting an even larger amount, according to Michigan Capitol Confidential.
The state of Michigan administered 9,636 doses on Dec. 21. On Dec. 20, 8,814 vaccines were issued to Michigan health care workers.
Since the first vaccine doses arrived on Dec. 14, there have been 26,737 doses distributed in the state, according to Michigan Capitol Confidential.
However, Michigan officials say the quantity of doses is still well under what was designated previously by the federal government. The state received a total of 84,825 doses in the first shipment from Pfizer, as of Dec. 21, according to The Detroit News.
"We are expecting 60,450 doses of Pfizer and 60,450 of Moderna this week and next week," state health department spokeswoman Lynn Sutfin told The Detroit News. "We had been provided larger allocation numbers a couple of weeks ago. However, we have said they were always subject to change."
