State Rep. Matthew Bierlein of Vassar, Michigan, was recently acknowledged by the Small Business Association of Michigan (SBAM) for his dedication to the state's small business community. The recognition took place at the SBAM Leadership Council winter event held at the state Capitol's Heritage Hall.

During the event, Rep. Bierlein was praised for his unwavering support for small businesses, as evidenced by his 100% pro-small business voting record. He was commended for his efforts to reduce the tax burden on local job providers, promote economic growth through the redevelopment of brownfield sites, and foster better relationships between employers and employees.

In his acceptance speech, Rep. Bierlein emphasized the crucial role that small businesses play in Michigan's economy, stating, "Small businesses are the backbone of our state and local economies." He highlighted the significant contribution of small businesses to Michigan's workforce, with 1.9 million small business employees representing 48.3% of the state's total workers.

SBAM President and CEO Brian Calley underscored the impact of legislative decisions on small businesses, stating, "The voting buttons in the Capitol have an immense impact on the operations of small businesses throughout Michigan." Calley emphasized the importance of lawmakers understanding the potential consequences of policies on the growth and success of small businesses.

Rep. Bierlein's proactive stance in supporting small businesses aligns with his role as a first-term representative for the 97th House District, covering portions of Bay, Genesee, Saginaw, and Tuscola counties. The recognition by SBAM serves as a testament to his commitment to creating a conducive environment for small business growth and prosperity in Michigan.
