State Representative Matthew Bierlein has been appointed to key positions in the Michigan House of Representatives for the 2025-26 legislative term. Bierlein will serve as Vice Chair of the House Oversight Committee, which is responsible for examining state government operations, including Auditor General reports and legislation impacting government functions.
Additionally, he will chair the House Oversight Subcommittee on Public Health and Food Security and participate in the House Oversight Subcommittee on Corporate Subsidies and State Investments. These roles are intended to enhance government transparency and accountability.
Bierlein expressed gratitude towards Speaker Matt Hall for his appointments, emphasizing the importance of accountability in government. "A huge priority for people in communities I represent and people across the state is more accountability in government," said Bierlein. He highlighted that citizens want clarity on how their tax dollars are utilized and decisions affecting their lives.
Reflecting on past instances where state government lacked transparency, Bierlein noted issues with taxpayer-funded business incentive plans and budget projects that have not provided clear returns or details. "The people deserve a better way forward, and these committees will help bring government back to the people," he stated.
Beyond his oversight roles, Bierlein will also be part of the House Health Policy Committee. This committee addresses legislation related to public health, healthcare access, mental health, and regulations for health professionals.
Bierlein represents Michigan's 97th House District, covering parts of Bay, Genesee, Saginaw, and Tuscola counties. He is currently serving his second term in this capacity.
