State Rep. Jaime Greene has voted in favor of a bipartisan resolution that calls on Congress and the President to end the ongoing federal government shutdown. The resolution, known as Senate Concurrent Resolution 7, was adopted by both chambers of the Michigan Legislature.
The resolution urges federal lawmakers to resolve the budget impasse, which has resulted in federal employees, service members, and contractors working without pay. Essential programs are also at risk due to the lack of funding.
Greene highlighted how communities near Selfridge Air National Guard Base and the Detroit Arsenal in Warren are particularly affected by the shutdown. "These bases are pillars of both our national defense and our local economy," Greene said. "They are communities of men and women who fly the missions, maintain the aircraft, and build the machines of freedom that protect our nation and our allies. Many of them are now working without pay or facing stalled production — and that’s not right."
According to SCR 7, ongoing delays in Washington have led to financial hardship for families across Michigan, interruptions in agricultural and infrastructure support, and uncertainty for local economies reliant on federal operations.
"This is not just a political stalemate — it’s a human crisis," Greene said. "We can debate policy and priorities, but we must never hold hardworking Americans hostage to gridlock. It’s time to end this shutdown, restore stability, and show the people who serve our country that we have their backs."
The Michigan Legislature will send copies of its resolution to the President, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, and Michigan's congressional delegation.
