Description
River Raisin National Battlefield Park will host an Autumn Walk from 10-11:30am, Saturday October 19th. The walk will depart from the parking lot of Hellenberg Park at 1499 E. Front St., Monroe, MI 48161, and wind along a mowed trail through Sterling Island that is roughly ¼ mile long. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about medicinal and edible plants employed by the Frenchtown residents and local Native Americans, such as the Potawatomi, that called this area home during the late 18th century and early 19th century. Visitors will also learn methods Frenchtown residents employed to make the most of harvest season, how plants and animals prepare for the coming cold, and exciting new developments at the Battlefield Park on the horizon. Please wear comfortable shoes, bring a full reusable water bottle and warm layers, and arrive 15 minutes early. There are bathrooms at Hellenberg Park but no running or potable water.
