In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Baker College’s Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Council invites you to participate in the 3rd annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Social Justice Essay contest. Your essay should be between 500 and 750 words and must be original work. The entry deadline is January 20, 2020. Ten winners will be selected to win $1,000 scholarships. No cash prizes will be given and only one entry per person is allowed.
The purpose of the civil rights movement was to gain full citizenship rights for all Americans, particularly those of African descent. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. played a pivotal role in the civil rights movement by trying to promote peace and racial equality.
This year’s essay contest will focus on some aspects of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s life in terms that have meaning and influence today, deal with his commitment to humanity and equality, and answer the questions: "Why is an equal education important?" "Is there equality in education today?" or "Is education still separate but equal?" Include your experiences and how they are influenced by either view.
