The Bay City Public School Board officially welcomed its newest member, who is filling an unexpired vacant seat. Matthew Felan replaces Mark Zanotti, who resigned at the Jan. 13 board meeting for undisclosed reasons. At the time, Zanotti was the school board president; his term expires in December.
Bay County state Sen. Kevin Daley (R-Arcadia Township) supported Felan's appointment. “Congratulations Matthew Felan and thank you for offering your time for the good of the community,” the senator posted to Facebook on Feb. 14.
Felan is a Rotary Club member and the CEO of the Great Lakes Bay Regional Alliance, according to MLive.
“I care deeply about the community. I thought about running for school board before and was not overly anxious to put my name on the ballot," Felan told MLive. “I kind of declined a few different opportunities to run because I didn’t think the time was right. Given the vacancy, I thought, if not now, when?”
