Michigan House Appropriations Committee Chair Shane Hernandez (R-Port Huron) believes roads, education, protection for the Great Lakes and health care can all be improved in the state without raising taxes. He was responding to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's recent budget proposal for the state of Michigan.

“All of this can and should be done without asking Michigan taxpayers to pay more money,” Hernandez said in a press release on the Michigan House Republicans website. “As always, my focus is on using existing resources as efficiently and effectively as possible to make all of Michigan an even better place to live. I am hopeful the governor will come to the table in the months ahead with that same goal in mind.”

Hernandez wants road improvement plans to include local roads and rural areas, rather than only state highways and areas that are heavily populated. He also envisions an education plan that gives all children an opportunity for success and a health plan that will combat the opioid abuse epidemic.
