Cost of college went up for all students at St Clair County Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 5.7 percent for 2018-19 at St Clair County Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Michigan residents paid $8,178 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $440 more than the $7,738 charged for 2017-18.

Non-resident students would have paid 41.3 percent more than residents this year, or $11,557. Non-resident tuition and fees grew 5.7 percent from $10,931 in 2017-18.

About 99 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Michigan residents.

Data shows 80 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 251 students received grants or scholarships totaling $1.4 million and 75 students took out student loans totaling more than $336,131.

Including all undergraduates (3,541), 1,418 students used grants or scholarships totaling $7.1 million, and 594 students took out $3 million in federal student loans.
