Convention of States Michigan has issued the following press release:
After the hugely successful COS Town Hall on Aug. 5, citizens requested a repeat free town hall meeting to explain the Convention of States solution to more citizens and, more importantly, to educate them on how they can become involved as well.
On Thursday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m., the Michigan Convention of States (MI COS) team will present at the Eastern Michigan State Fairgrounds.
When: Thursday, September 23, 2021
7-8:45 p.m.
Where: Eastern Michigan State Fairgrounds
195 Midway St., Imlay City
(across from McDonald’s restaurant)
Cost: free, no pre-registration or RSVP needed. See the Facebook event here.
Leading this meeting will be Truman Mast, a father of five, a Michigander, and a District Captain (MI-82) volunteer. Mast says he became involved with the COS through a chance encounter related to his historical and spiritual pursuits. Additionally, State Grassroots Coordinator & Navy Veteran, Bill Pacey, will speak about MI COS.
"The Lord led me to COS," Truman said. "I was taking the Biblical Citizenship course by Patriot Academy, which included (COS Co-founder and CEO) Mark Meckler. I had learned about Biblical Citizenship from being involved with Wallbuilders and David Barton. That’s where I heard about COS. I signed the petition online, signed up to volunteer, and the rest is history. When a leader from COS called me to start the process, I asked, 'What role is needed most?' and here I am now as a district captain.'"
Convention of States Action is a nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging states to stand up and curtail the runaway power of the federal government. The organization gives us, as concerned citizens, the opportunity to demand change through building an engaged, peaceful, educated army of grassroots activists. Article V of the US Constitution grants state legislatures the right to call a Convention of States.
The ability to do something besides complain is what drew Mast to the Michigan chapter of COS Action. Mast said, “My hope and my prayer for this nation is that people will wake up spiritually, turn back to God, and return to decency and respect for one another.”
Mast also shares hopes expressed recently by another volunteer: “I’m hoping that we can educate our citizenry to become more aware of their rights, return to a self-governing nation, and learn how to fight for [these goals]. I'm hoping that our state legislatures realize just how much the federal government has usurped their power and how powerful the people (grassroots patriots) are to their future careers and lives.”
You can also become involved by signing the petition for Michigan’s state legislature to support a Convention of States.
The Convention of States organization aims to limit the federal government in three ways: 1) make common-sense restrictions to federal spending, 2) give stolen power back to the states, and 3) impose federal term limits. As a representative of MI COS, Truman hopes to bring more people together for this cause. Michigan House Joint Resolution E is currently in the Michigan House. It is the bill calling for a Convention of States.
So far, the organization’s resolution has passed in 15 states; 34 states must pass identical applications to create a “Convention.” When an amendment is proposed, 38 states will need to ratify any changes to the Constitution for them to become law.
If you can relate with the concerns and hopes above, you might be a grassroots patriot waiting for the right opportunity.
