Anchor Bay School District issued the following announcement on Sept 14.
Anchor Bay School District is committed to providing free, safe, and nourishing meals to all students for the 2021-22 school year. However, as we all continue to operate within the COVID-19 environment, Anchor Bay School District, like many other school systems across the nation, is experiencing food supply chain disruptions. Supply chain issues are the result of labor shortages, transportation issues, and manufacturing limitations that, in some cases, no longer produce many of the foods that we typically serve our students.
The impact of these supply chain disruptions could include last minute menu changes, more limited meal options and less ala carte choices. Accordingly, students may wish to bring a lunch or a snack to school to ensure that they have something that they enjoy eating should their options be limited.
While we wait for the supply chain to catch up with the increased demand of feeding all of our students, we are asking for the community's patience as we navigate these challenges and implement strategies necessary to meet the demands of our students and their families. Please know that we are doing everything within our power to ensure our students receive balanced healthy meals.
Sunday, the District was made aware that its food service vendor experienced a ransomeware attack and is unable to receive, process, or fulfill the District's food orders. We are working diligently with the vendor to resolve this issue. Because the food orders are often perishable, we typically schedule several deliveries during the week. If the vendor is unable to make its normal delivers, it could inhibit our ability to provide breakfast and lunch to all of our students on Thursday and Friday. We have been working through the weekend and all day today to provide alternative solutions should the regularly scheduled delivers not be made on time. In light of such, we are asking that you be prepared to provide your student with breakfast and lunch on Thursday and Friday of this week should we not receive any additional delivers.
We will continue to provide constant communication on this topic and keep you abreast of any developments. Please continue to monitor the District's website for the latest information.
