Celebrating athletic and academic achievements was on the agenda of the April 10 board meeting of the Croswell Lexington School District.

The board began by recognizing students who won titles at the state level. J’Lin Isaac is state champion powerlifter who was recognized for winning her division by lifting 745 pounds. Isaac bested the second-place winner by just five pounds.

The district also recognized their competitive cheer team, who were able to bring home their first ever state championship for competitive cheer. The team was honored for their hard work and dedication to the sport.

The district also recently posted a staff spotlight to honor the hard work of two of their employees from the transportation department. They highlighted Joe and Rob, who work as the district’s bus mechanics, as they were able to keep all the buses running at top notch condition and were able to pass the annual safety inspection from the Michigan State Police with a 100 score. These checks include 192 aspects, so the dedication to detail from Joe and Rob was noted.

“For many, many years, we have not been able to provide transportation for middle school students (for) away athletic events. And I'm really happy to report that this past winter for winter sports, we were able to provide transportation for every event that we were asked to provide transportation for both middle school and high school,” said Transportation Director Lori Martin. “That was something that we're really proud to be able to have done this week. Last week we started spring sports. This week is a very, very busy week. Just this week alone, we have 13 buses going out for away trips. To put that in perspective, in the fall, we did a total of 33 trips.”

The district also recognized several students of the month from all schools and grade levels. From Frostick Elementary, Liam Shimshock was chosen as April’s student of the month because of his upbeat attitude. From Meyer Elementary, Mason Graham was nominated by his teachers because of his academic success and leadership in class.

From middle school, a sixth-grade student named Keynan was nominated by his teachers because of his willingness to help faculty and students. Dominic was chosen from Pioneer High School because of his outgoing personality and ability to connect with everyone he meets.

Finally, from Croswell-Lexington High school, Lizzy was called up by her teacher for her diligence. As a freshman, she cares for all classmates, teachers, and her own work, all while maintaining positivity each day.

Each student of the month received a gift certificate for Jersey Mike’s.
