In a surprising move, the Democrat majority in the Michigan Legislature has adjourned session sine die, marking the earliest adjournment before December since 1968. This decision has raised concerns about the commitment of legislative Democrats to their constituents and their priorities.

The adjournment was made to allow the state's presidential primary to be moved ahead to February, positioning Michigan as one of the first states to vote in the next presidential election. However, this move has been criticized for prioritizing political ambitions over the needs of the people.

State Senator Kevin Daley, representing Michigan's 26th Senate District, expressed his disappointment in the lack of awareness shown by the majority. He highlighted the contrast between the hardworking people of Michigan who continue to provide for their families, and the elected leaders who have chosen to take an extended year-end holiday.

Daley also pointed out the lack of bipartisanship and extreme partisan behavior that has been prevalent in the Legislature. He voiced concerns about the radical policies pushed through by Democrats, such as repealing Right to Work and implementing Michigan's own Green New Deal. These policies, passed along party-line votes, have raised fears about their impact on Michigan's economy and its attractiveness to businesses.

The senator discussed the negative consequences of the majority's decisions, including the draining of Michigan's historic budget surplus and the burden placed on families, seniors, and small businesses. He questioned the incentives for his loved ones living in other states to return to Michigan, considering the higher taxes and energy prices.

While the majority may be on an early vacation, Sen. Daley assured the people of Michigan that his office remains open and committed to serving them. He emphasized that his office is staffed and available to listen and assist with any concerns or issues.

As the only currently serving Republican member of the Legislature who has experienced being in the minority before, Daley understands the harmful effects of partisan behavior and the importance of working together for the benefit of the state.

The op-ed by Sen. Kevin Daley appeared in The Country Press on November 25, 2023. Michigan residents were encouraged to reach out to his office for assistance or to share their thoughts and concerns.

Despite the adjournment, the senator's dedication to serving the people of Michigan remains unwavering.
