North Branch Area Schools welcomed 2,382 students in 2022-23 school year

There were 2,382 students enrolled in North Branch Area Schools in the 2022-23 school year, 1.3% less than the previous year, according to the Michigan Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51.2% of them were boys, and 48.8% were girls.

Data also shows that most of the students were white, representing 92.1% of the North Branch Area Schools total enrollment.

North Branch Area Schools covers four schools within Lapeer County with its main office in North Branch. Among them, North Branch Elementary School recorded the highest enrollment of 923 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Overall student enrollment in Michigan remains below pre-pandemic levels, white students experiencing the largest decline at 6.5%.

Academic performance has also suffered, with the state's average NAEP score dropping by 6.5 points and ethnic achievement gaps widening. Black and Hispanic students' average math proficiency dropped by 7% in 2022, to 13.5% and 28.2%, respectively.
