Enrollment at Owendale-Gagetown Area School District decreased by 5.6% compared to previous school year

There were 151 students enrolled in Owendale-Gagetown Area School District in the 2022-23 school year, 5.6% less than the previous year, according to the Michigan Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 58.3% of them were girls, and 41.7% were boys.

Data also shows that most of the students were white, representing 88.7% of the Owendale-Gagetown Area School District total enrollment.

Owendale-Gagetown Area School District covers two schools within Huron County with its main office in Owendale. Among them, Owendale-Gagetown Junior/Senior High School recorded the highest enrollment of 82 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Overall student enrollment in Michigan remains below pre-pandemic levels, white students experiencing the largest decline at 6.5%.

Academic performance has also suffered, with the state's average NAEP score dropping by 6.5 points and ethnic achievement gaps widening. Black and Hispanic students' average math proficiency dropped by 7% in 2022, to 13.5% and 28.2%, respectively.
