Enrollment at Harbor Beach Community Schools decreased by 3% compared to previous school year

There were 491 students enrolled in Harbor Beach Community Schools in the 2022-23 school year, 3% less than the previous year, according to the Michigan Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 50.5% of them were boys, and 49.5% were girls.

Data also shows that most of the students were white, representing 95.5% of the Harbor Beach Community Schools total enrollment.

Harbor Beach Community Schools covers three schools within Huron County with its main office in Harbor Beach. Among them, Harbor Beach Community High School recorded the highest enrollment of 212 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Overall student enrollment in Michigan remains below pre-pandemic levels, white students experiencing the largest decline at 6.5%.

Academic performance has also suffered, with the state's average NAEP score dropping by 6.5 points and ethnic achievement gaps widening. Black and Hispanic students' average math proficiency dropped by 7% in 2022, to 13.5% and 28.2%, respectively.
