The Michigan House of Representatives has taken action in an attempt to stop the governor's single-handed control over the state's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The vote to bring back representative democracy was taken in late April.

Rep. Phil Green (R-Millington) represents the 84th District, which encompasses both Huron and Tuscola counties. In a statement released April 30, the day of the vote in the House, Green said the plan his chambers approved was the first step "back to a representative form of government," which would return it "to the hands of the people."

"Taxpayers and families in Huron and Tuscola counties expect their elected leaders to work together at all times — especially during tough times such as these with COVID-19," Green said, according to Michigan House Republicans. "People have serious concerns about how the governor has handled this situation so far."

Green also said he's counting on the governor to work with legislators on reopening the state safely.
