City of Algonac issued the following announcement on Dec 21.
Rolling Brook Fire Update.
What are we the Algonac Lions doing with the money donations and what are we doing with helping the displaced residents?
We are in the process of helping the displaced seniors find new residence.
As many of the displaced residents were helped by the State of Michigan via Section 8 which helps supplement the resident's rent payment. That is no longer the case once the fire destroyed their place of living. They now have to apply for section 8 for their new apartment.
We have taken it upon our selves to get involved in contacting the State of Michigan on behalf of the displaced residents (One at a time) to make sure that once they are placed in a new senior living apartment that they can count on Section 8 being available to help supplement the rent at their new place of living.
All that takes numerous hours per resident via phones calls and back and forth emails.
Currently, we are using the donated monies to help pay for placing residents into new apartments. That may include the deposit and first month rent on the apartment along with anything necessary for the comfort and wellbeing of the resident.
If you are a displaced resident of Rolling Brook or have a family member that has been displaced by the fire and has not been contacted yet by us, feel free to call us at (810)512-8020 and make an appointment to meet with Lion Don Matzka about what help is available in the short term and what can we do to help in the long term, meaning placing the displaced resident into an apartment of their own.
We are here to help for the short and long term.
If you have any questions, feel free to call us at (810)512-8020 Or stop by at the club.
