State Rep. Jaime Greene has expressed support for the Michigan House’s approval of the “Value for MI Dollars” budget for fiscal year 2025–26. According to Greene, the plan eliminates $5 billion in what she described as wasteful spending and focuses on investments that impact Michigan families.

“Michigan families deserve a budget that works for them, not for bureaucracy,” Greene said. “This plan reins in waste, fraud, and abuse while making sure every tax dollar delivers real value in the form of better schools, safer roads, stronger emergency services, and secure communities.”

The approved budget totals $78.5 billion and allocates more than $3 billion to road and bridge repairs. It also sets a record with a $12,000 per-pupil foundation allowance for K–12 education and expands scholarships to lower higher education costs. Funding is also included for public safety and mental health programs.

For her district, Greene highlighted several specific allocations: $1.1 million for the Palms Road Bridge and $280,000 for the Sterling Road Culvert through the St. Clair County Road Commission. The budget also continues support for Selfridge Air National Guard Base and provides resources to expand juvenile justice bed space.

Greene advocated for a supplemental appropriation of $6 million to reimburse EMS agencies for unpaid emergency services provided to state prisons after a previous healthcare contractor failed. She noted that without this funding, ambulance providers in Macomb and St. Clair counties could have faced significant financial losses affecting their ability to serve residents.

“These investments aren’t just numbers on paper — they mean safer bridges, stronger schools, better support for our first responders, and real improvements for families across our community,” Greene said. “This budget delivers for St. Clair County and for Michigan.”

The legislation now moves to the Senate where Greene has called for its prompt passage.
