City of Flint issued the following announcement on Feb 10.
City Hall will close to the public on Friday, February 11, 2022, at noon in recognition of Captain Collin Bernie.
The walk-up window will be open until 4pm Friday. The red drop box will be available for residents to make payments at City Hall Customer Service.
City Hall will reopen on Monday, February 14, 2022, at 9am.
Services for Captain Bernie will be held Friday, February 11, 2022, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 711 S. Saginaw Street in downtown Flint. Police and Military honors to follow on S. Saginaw Street, in front of the church. Church seating is reserved for designated family and friends, and Flint Police personnel (current and retired).
Captain Birnie served 26 years with the City of Flint Police Department. Prior to his law enforcement career, Captain Birnie served in the Marines during Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. Captain Collin Birnie passed away on Friday, February 4, 2022.
The flag at City Hall will remain at half-staff until Monday, February 14, 2022, in honor of Captain Birnie’s service to the city of Flint. Governor Gretchen Whitmer has ordered U.S. and Michigan flags within the state capital complex and upon all public buildings and grounds across the state of Michigan to be lowered to half-staff.
