Water Pollution Control Division: sanitary sewer overflow has ended

On July 10,2022 around 10:50 a.m., the City of Flint Water Pollution Control Facility had sludge back up through a pipe from the Bioworks depackager building.

The sludge backed up in the building and came out through the door and from the sides of the building. It is contained on the ground around the building, and there was no impact to the Flint River or the surrounding environment. The spill has ended around 9:00 p.m.

As a precautionary measure required by law, the State of Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy and the Genesee County Health Department have been notified.
