State Rep. Jay DeBoyer has sent a letter to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) demanding action after a report highlighting inappropriate uses of grant dollars. The Detroit News report outlined lavish spending from MEDC executive committee member and Gov. Whitmer-appointee Fay Beydoun involving an ongoing $20 million “business accelerator” grant project she has been overseeing.

In the letter addressed to MEDC Chief Executive Quentin L. Messer Jr., DeBoyer emphasized the importance of accountability and transparency in government operations, stating, "Accountability and transparency in state government and its departments are pivotal in maintaining the public’s trust." He expressed concern that when questionable practices are observed, it results in a loss of respect for institutions and elected leaders.

DeBoyer also raised issues with the delayed review of expenses related to the grant project, highlighting that taxpayers should not have to wait for $10 million to be spent before accountability measures are implemented. He warned that failure to address the situation promptly could lead to unchecked spending, unchallenged corruption, and further damage to the state's reputation for governmental integrity.

The State Representative stressed, “It’s important for the state to get a handle on this," urging for immediate action to address the misuse of grant funding and prevent any further disregard for responsible financial practices. The report has sparked calls for increased oversight of the funds involved, with concerns raised by multiple former associates of Fay Beydoun.

DeBoyer's letter also called for State Attorney General Dana Nessel to investigate the expenditures linked to the grant project, emphasizing the need to uphold accountability and prevent any potential harm to the state's reputation.
