Woodside Bible Church's Pastor Benjamin Wheatley journeyed to Lansing on Wednesday to lead an invocation for the Michigan House of Representatives. He was accompanied by his family, including his wife Devon and their children Asher, Adaline, and Benjamin, as guests of State Representative Jaime Greene, who is a congregant of Woodside Bible Church.

Pastor Wheatley, who serves as the worship director at Woodside Bible Church, regularly leads worship music and often collaborates with Representative Greene in this capacity.

“It was truly a privilege and a joy to have Pastor Wheatley and his lovely family with us today, and to hear his heartfelt invocation to open our legislative session,” commented Greene. “He is not only a gifted spiritual leader but also a dear friend whose dedication and musical gifts inspire our community. I am deeply grateful they made the trip to Lansing to bless us with their presence.”

In the United States, starting legislative sessions with a prayer is a long-standing tradition. The Michigan House continues this practice by inviting members and their special guests, such as local ministers, to offer prayers.

“The tradition of beginning each session day with prayer is one of the most meaningful and uplifting practices we maintain,” Greene stated. “It reminds us daily of the importance of honoring God in all our decisions and acknowledges that our authority as legislators is a sacred trust. I am delighted Pastor Wheatley could lead us today in continuing this honorable and reverent tradition.”
