Republican state legislators from Michigan, Representative Jaime Greene and Senator Kevin Daley, visited Washington, D.C. on Tuesday to engage in discussions with key cabinet officials from President Donald Trump's administration. The meetings focused on significant issues such as education, housing, and job restoration in Michigan.

Senator Daley commented on the discussions, stating, "Our conversation with President Trump’s cabinet made it apparent just how much he shares our focus on turning around Michigan’s declining schools and economy." He emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong relationship with federal officials to address challenges in education performance, the housing market, and the business environment in Michigan.

The meeting included Education Secretary Linda McMahon, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, along with senior officials from the Department of Treasury and Domestic Policy Council.

Representative Greene highlighted her productive conversations with Secretaries Lutnick and Turner. She noted their departments' influence on her efforts related to rural broadband development. As chair of the House Communications and Technology Committee, Greene has been advocating for increased access to Michigan's Broadband, Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program. This program is a federally administered initiative aimed at enhancing high-speed internet infrastructure under the oversight of Secretary Lutnick's Department of Commerce.

Greene remarked on the collaboration required for such initiatives: "The BEAD program is a great example of the kind of federally administered public service that can improve the lives of countless Americans, but it depends upon state officials to accomplish its intended goal." She expressed optimism about future cooperation with federal departments to benefit Michigan families.
