State Representative Joseph G. Pavlov, a Republican from Smiths Creek, has cast his vote in favor of a new K-12 education budget plan led by House Republicans. This plan aims to cut bureaucratic red tape and increase per-pupil funding to historic levels. The package, supported by Pavlov, eliminates costly for-profit grant programs and raises the foundation allowance to $12,000 per student.
Pavlov stated, "Our education budget plans have wasted taxpayer money for years on broken systems. Our plan moves us in a different direction, making sure funding goes directly to the people who know students’ needs the best: the local school districts, the teachers, and the students’ families."
With 38 years of experience as an educator at Marysville High School, where he taught English, speech, and drama, Pavlov cited his background as instrumental in understanding how government spending on school aid has been mismanaged.
"Our local schools have been asking for the freedom to use state funding how they please, free of overregulation and burdensome government mandates," Pavlov remarked. "Now, thanks to the new budget plan House Republicans have put together, schools are getting exactly that in record amounts of funding. This will go a long way in turning around the decline in educational performance our state has seen for a long time now."
