State Representative Jaime Greene has expressed strong criticism towards Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson's new financial disclosure system, describing it as a failure for Michigan taxpayers. In an interview with WJR, Rep. Greene highlighted significant issues with the new system, stating it is more difficult to navigate compared to the previous version and hampers access to elected officials' financial information.
Greene commented on the project’s inefficiency, saying, “It never launched; it never works.” She contrasted the current system with its predecessor from 2000, which she admitted was outdated but functional. "The old system from back in 2000 worked so much better," Greene noted, despite its antiquated technology. She criticized the lack of proper testing for Benson’s new system, especially considering its cost of over $9.3 million.
In light of these problems, the state legislature enacted changes to financial disclosure requirements for elected officials. The amendments received broad bipartisan support and introduce a new form that can be submitted via email, bypassing Benson's malfunctioning platform.
Greene remarked on the legislative decision: “That all but one of the legislative democrats voted to replace Benson’s financial disclosure system is a damning indictment of her failures in office.” She interpreted this move as a critical assessment of Benson’s tenure and potential gubernatorial aspirations.
